Favorite Roles of Mark Duplass

I rarely ever mentioned about TV series specifically in this blog, because my focus is movies. The truth is I watched more international TV series now that we signed up for cable in our home. With lots of channels, sometimes we are overwhelmed with all of them. There’s reality shows, but doubtful that they are 100% real (and they make new ones everyday, it’s exhausting). There’s comedy but rarely they established something as timeless as Friends. And there’s drama, but the truth is this category is rather hard to find the most favorite for me. No, I don’t follow Game of Thrones, not that I have problems with it.

I do love watching Enlightened but HBO doesn’t show the new ones. Girls is an interesting show, but I am not in my 20s anymore. But there’s one TV show I paid attention to because there’s one actor I secretly love (but never mentioned) directed, written and starred the show, Togetherness. If you guess Mark Duplass, then you are correct.

I would mention in my yearly post that Togetherness is my one favorite show, but I was overwhelmed for a while so I just never write it. But then I heard that HBO cancels the show, which breaks my heart. I know in the end, ratings just control everything. But why???

So here’s my Monday watching schedule : Married at First Sight (because experimenting two strangers to get married is interesting), then Girls (well I just need to see what Lena Dunham write though sometimes I criticize their life a lot) and then Togetherness to end the night. The busiest from all week nights.

Togetherness never tried to be sensational or scandalous like Empire, but the drama and the characters was simply relatable, heart-warming while being real and modern. Aside from Mark Duplass, other three actors (Amanda Peet, Melanie Lynskey,  and Steve Zissis) blend and showed their parts such faultless. I envied their bond and how they would do anything to keep each other in the right track.

This is what the team respond to the fans who feel disappointed with the show’s cancellation :

I am bummed because now I feel there will be no significant show on my Monday night anymore. I also have never seen any show just as excellent in a humble way. I hope the Duplass brothers can make new TV series project, but I am already hooked with the characters in Togetherness and wonder what their life would be.

So let’s look back on what make me loving Mark Duplass. Here’s some movies that he starred in that I loved :

Your Sister’s Sister (2011)

Such double excitement for me seeing this movie, because I also love Emily Blunt, which is Duplass’ love interest. The theme is a bit icky, since it involves love triangle with a sibling. But both showed a likeable and sincere personalities, I can overpass it. Mark Duplass is still this genuine nice guy you love to hang around with.

Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)

This movie actually the first time I saw Mark Duplass. He’s being a mysterious geeky man who believes he can time travel, and behind his weirdo-ness, his romantic side makes us sympathetic. Plus, he actually match well with quirky Aubrey Plaza.

The One I Love (2014)

The character here quite similar with his character in Togetherness, which is a sensitive and dedicated husband to his wife but faced challenges with the marriage. He also written the script, which is a thrilling concept but I wasn’t sure I liked how it wrap the story, which was vague and unsure.

Tammy (2014)

I wasn’t too fond with the movie Tammy. Didn’t expect Mark Duplass, but he made the movie more watchable. He appeared not much, but I was surprised seeing him being such a Prince Charming while still can match with Melissa McCarthy’s messy being. I felt his part on this movie is just a fantasy, though he’s so dreamy.
